HIENGHENE

Hienghène (Hyehen in fwâi language, means « cry while walking ») is around 1h from Poindimié. It is a special place in Calédonia as many Kanaks revolts and independentist leaders are from there as Jean Marie Tjibaou. Some tragic events occurred there as the ambush of Tiendanite were 10 Kanaks of FLNKS died.

It has also some very beautiful nature with the cliffs of black limestone (Lindéralique) surrounded by water and one with the shape of a broody hen. It has also a beautiful town hall similar to the style of the Jean Marie Tjibaou center in Nouméa.
